When to book

To secure your studio session and preferred date I recommend that you book as early as possible. Following your 20 week scan would be an ideal time as you may have a more accurate idea of your due date and possibly know the sex of your baby. A studio date can be pencilled in to my diary and will remain flexible. Babies are best photographed before they are 3 weeks old, so please let me know as soon as your little bundle finally arrives and a definite date and time can be agreed.

Older Babies

To achieve the cute, curly, sleepy poses, babies are best photographed before the age of 3 weeks old. I am happy to photograph slightly older newborns but it may take slightly longer to achieve specific poses. Please contact me as early as possible to secure your booking.

What to expect

My aim is to keep the newborn sessions as relaxed as possible. The sessions will be ‘baby lead’ and I will always attempt to get the best photographs possible when baby is happy and calm. Please expect your session to last 3 hours plus, we won’t rush and lots of time will be spent soothing and calming baby to enable us to capture natural and relaxed works of art for you to treasure.

Before your session it would be good for you to interact and play with your baby. We want them to be nice and sleepy when they reach the studio, so that they can be positioned easily. Babies tend to get hungry during the session, so please prepare a few bottles to bring with you, if you are bottle feeding. If you use a soother then please bring that along too.  You may also wish to bring extra nappies, muslin and wipes, just in case.

I aim to keep the studio nice and warm during the session. Due to the nature of the photographs babies will be mostly photographed naked to capture those cute curly poses. Babies tend to pee and poop when they are naked. Please don’t worry if this should happen, it’s perfectly normal and all blankets and props are always washed and cleaned after every session.

Newborn sessions are best carried out during the morning. I have availability on certain weekdays and also during the weekend. Please contact me for more details. All sessions take place in my cosy studio based in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham.

Helpful tips

  • Ensure you have enough time set aside for your session at the time of booking.
  • Remember that more time will be spent calming and soothing baby than taking photographs. This is to ensure that they are happy and relaxed to achieve the best photographs.
  • I may require your assistance with some of the poses to ensure baby’s safety at all times.
  • Please bring a dummy if your baby usually uses one.
  • Please bring prepared bottles, as your baby may require more than one feed during your visit.
  • Please advise me if you require siblings to be included in the shots.
  • Please feel free to bring a snack with you.
  • Please remove your shoes on entry to the studio. Feel free to bring slippers or thicker socks with you.
